Python Typing Practice

Practice Python typing with four-space indentation, colons, comprehensions and f-strings. Choose from 40 prepared examples and review whitespace accuracy for free.

Guided practiceFREE · PHYSICAL KEYBOARD

Off by default. No typed text or email. Usage preferences and details

Use a physical keyboard. Timing starts on your first character. Paste is disabled. Keep this tab open until you finish; reloading starts a new session. Prepared text continues its rotation across visits in this browser; generated numbers can coincidentally repeat.

Practice your own code · private to this tab

Use fictional or redacted English keyboard text. Paste is allowed here to prepare the source. It is disabled during practice. Code is copied, never executed. Limit: 1,200 characters. Tabs become four spaces. This source and its results stay in this tab, including when optional usage statistics are enabled. They do not save to your account or complete plan lessons. Reloading clears them.

A Python example before you start

Handle invalid input — copy the displayed source exactly, including whitespace. Scroll the sample horizontally if a line extends beyond the panel.

def parse_quantity(value):
    try:
        return int(value)
    except ValueError:
        return 0

What to watch in Python

A colon opens the function, loop or conditional body. Tab inserts four spaces here; line breaks do not add indentation automatically.

Python uses True and False with capital initials. Practice dictionary keys, list comprehensions and f-string braces without changing their case or spacing.

40 prepared snippets in three levels

Choose Core syntax first, then Work tasks and Nested structures. Each untimed run contains eight snippets from the selected bank. All snippets mixes the three levels; keep the same level when comparing results.

Core syntax · 12 snippets
  • Filter active users
  • Format a total
  • Enumerate a queue
  • Select nonempty values
  • Unpack a record
  • Normalize a reference
  • Check a range
  • Build a dictionary
  • Keep unique codes
  • Slice a work queue
  • Format a date
  • Read a default preference
Work tasks · 14 snippets
  • Group order quantities
  • Read a local JSON file
  • Group records by owner
  • Sort a priority queue
  • Summarize invoice lines
  • Prepare a tab-separated export
  • Filter open tasks
  • Find missing fields
  • Count by status
  • Match an order code
  • Build an address label
  • Find a stock discrepancy
  • Calculate a completion share
  • Parse a displayed amount
Nested structures · 14 snippets
  • Handle invalid input
  • Build a small class
  • Validate nested items
  • Read JSON with an error result
  • Index the latest versions
  • Flatten a nested batch
  • Use a data class
  • Yield matching records
  • Merge nested preferences
  • Split a queue into batches
  • Describe a nested validation error
  • Compare records with strict zip
  • Aggregate a nested warehouse
  • Use a typed function signature

Prepared snippets rotate until the selected bank is exhausted. They are transcription exercises, not generated projects or a programming assessment.

WHO IT HELPS

Train a useful work skill.

For Python learners who lose accuracy when moving between indentation, dictionary keys and expressions. Examples include exception handling, file-reading syntax, loops and a small class.

How to practice

Start untimed with Accuracy first enabled. After a def, for, try or except line, press Enter and insert the displayed indentation yourself. Tab inserts four spaces. Check nested blocks before submitting; use Ctrl/Command+Enter rather than Enter alone.

Common mistakes

Missing a colon or four leading spaces changes the copy. Watch True versus true, underscores in names, and braces inside f-strings. The tool counts each space and line break; it does not run Python or infer whether another indentation style would work.

Suggested training time

Start with 5–10 minutes. Take breaks and stop if typing causes discomfort. Accurate input comes before speed.

Common questions

How is exact-copy accuracy measured?

Every character, including case, spaces and line breaks, is compared with the source. WPM uses five characters per word. Compare the same language, duration and practice settings; this is not a programming assessment.

Do I need an account?

No. Practice, error review and current-result export are free without login. Sign in only if you want to save history.

Can I practice Python indentation without auto-indent?

Yes. New lines start without automatic indentation. Use Tab for four spaces, or type spaces individually, and match the displayed nesting exactly. Whitespace errors appear in the same exact-copy report as letter errors.

Does the JSON-file example read my computer?

No. The with open(...) statement is prepared text. The practice tool does not execute Python, read files or install packages.

Which Python exercises are included?

The 40 examples include filtering users, formatting totals, grouping quantities, handling invalid input, JSON-file syntax, enumerating a queue, cleaning names and a small class. Choose a level and keep it consistent for comparisons. Each bank rotates until exhausted; repeats are possible after a full cycle.
