JSON Typing Practice

Practice JSON typing with nested objects, arrays, double quotes and escaped characters. Choose from 40 prepared documents and review exact punctuation and whitespace.

Guided practiceFREE · PHYSICAL KEYBOARD

Off by default. No typed text or email. Usage preferences and details

Use a physical keyboard. Timing starts on your first character. Paste is disabled. Keep this tab open until you finish; reloading starts a new session. Prepared text continues its rotation across visits in this browser; generated numbers can coincidentally repeat.

Practice your own code · private to this tab

Use fictional or redacted English keyboard text. Paste is allowed here to prepare the source. It is disabled during practice. Code is copied, never executed. Limit: 1,200 characters. Tabs become four spaces. This source and its results stay in this tab, including when optional usage statistics are enabled. They do not save to your account or complete plan lessons. Reloading clears them.

A JSON example before you start

Escaped characters — copy the displayed source exactly, including whitespace. Scroll the sample horizontally if a line extends beyond the panel.

What to watch in JSON

Object keys and string values use double quotes. Keep commas between entries, with no trailing comma after the last entry.

JSON uses lowercase true, false and null. Nested arrays and escaped quotes or backslashes need every character; this tool scores the copy without executing or validating a document.

40 prepared snippets in three levels

Choose Core syntax first, then Work tasks and Nested structures. Each untimed run contains eight snippets from the selected bank. All snippets mixes the three levels; keep the same level when comparing results.

Core syntax · 10 snippets
  • API response
  • A customer record
  • Shipping preference
  • Stock levels
  • A scheduled review
  • A named list
  • A price display
  • An empty search result
  • A feature flag
  • A keyboard setting
Work tasks · 14 snippets
  • An order with line items
  • A paginated result
  • Inventory adjustment
  • Shipment with two parcels
  • Contact channels
  • Invoice details
  • A return request
  • A support handover
  • An address with unit
  • A task checklist
  • An export selection
  • A bounded list request
  • A negative adjustment
  • A training result summary
Nested structures · 16 snippets
  • Editor preferences
  • Feature settings
  • Escaped characters
  • Validation feedback
  • Nested access settings
  • A grouped stock response
  • A validation error list
  • Escaped report text
  • A paged export response
  • A versioned record
  • A nested event envelope
  • A comparison matrix
  • A two-stage workflow
  • Nested display preferences
  • A fictional dispatch location
  • A mixed-type example

Prepared snippets rotate until the selected bank is exhausted. They are transcription exercises, not generated projects or a programming assessment.

WHO IT HELPS

Train a useful work skill.

For people entering API payloads, settings and structured records who want fewer quote, comma and escaping mistakes. JSON is a data format; these drills train text entry rather than programming logic.

How to practice

Start with an untimed batch and Accuracy first enabled. Pair each opening brace or bracket with its closing delimiter. Copy one key-value entry at a time, then check commas, quotes and indentation before submitting with Ctrl/Command+Enter.

Common mistakes

Keep double quotes around keys and strings, lowercase true/false/null, and no trailing comma. In the escaped-characters exercise, copy each visible backslash exactly. A displayed \n inside a string is two source characters, unlike an actual line break between entries.

Suggested training time

Start with 5–10 minutes. Take breaks and stop if typing causes discomfort. Accurate input comes before speed.

Common questions

How is exact-copy accuracy measured?

Every character, including case, spaces and line breaks, is compared with the source. WPM uses five characters per word. Compare the same language, duration and practice settings; this is not a programming assessment.

Do I need an account?

No. Practice, error review and current-result export are free without login. Sign in only if you want to save history.

Does this validate or format JSON?

No. The prepared documents are practice sources, and your entry is compared character by character. The tool does not parse, reformat or repair what you type; differently formatted but valid JSON will not match exactly.

How do I type escaped quotes, backslashes and newline escapes?

Copy the visible source, including each backslash. The characters \n inside a quoted value are typed as backslash and n. Use Enter only where the source has an actual new line between entries.

What JSON documents are included?

The 40 documents include an API response, editor preferences, a customer record, order line items, feature settings, pagination, escaped characters and validation feedback. Choose core syntax, work tasks or nested structures. Each bank rotates and can repeat after it is exhausted.
